18th: O’Boyle’s Fort

18th

The hollow mound on the right, about 180 metres from the tee has swallowed many a ball over the years and its shape is reminiscent of the great Doon Fort, an ancient five metre high circular stone fortress positioned on an island just two miles from the course. The locals call the stone enclosure, O’Boyle’s Fort after the chieftain who last ruled from it and this is most appropriate in this case, as the golf mound in question is on a tract of land rented from the neighbouring Boyle family over several generations. An image of the fort occupies the top right corner of the club crest.

Par 4 – 365m
A pleasant par four finish features a slight dog-leg to the right. Out of bounds threatens on the right, so the best option is to drive to the left of the fairway, opening up the green for an easier approach. Avoid the bunkers on the right of the green and once finished, prepare for the refreshing presence of the well-appointed clubhouse.
