William Hemmersbach managed the Portnoo Hotel and although not a golfer, he had his staff work on the course during the winters of the early thirties. Among the projects they completed was the cutting of a wide gap through the dune, some 80 metres short of what is now the 13th green.

Par 5 – 463m
This is the first in a trio of consecutive par fives. A straight-forward tee-shot to a right-to-left sloping fairway and a good second to the brow of Hemmersbach’s Gap sets up the opportunity of a short pitch to a friendly green. A good birdie opportunity.
