Ardara men took the honours this week with Sean White the best on Sunday and veteran Eamonn Mc Gill winning Friday’s Seniors. Eamonn Mc Gill helped by 3 birdies on the front 9 carded 37 points in Fridays 16 hole competition and the younger Ardara man had 3 points to spare on Sunday with an excellent 42 points.
Both men were part of the Gaeltacht squad that had a good 8.5 to 1.5 victory over Dunfanaghy on Saturday. A good result in our last home game might ensure that Michael Naughton’s team can reach the final which will take place in Narin Portnoo on April 21st.
The Winter League has reached the semi final stage with Charlie Tully and John Ban up against Seamus McDonagh and Michael Naughton and the Glenties pairing of Joe McLoone and Patrick Gallagher will meet Ciaran O’Kane and Des Turley.

The annual Mass for deceased members and family members will take place this Friday 24th Feb. at 7.30pm in the clubhouse. Celebrant will be Fr Daly with prayers from Rev John Deane Ardara. It is hoped that we have a good attendance.
Our Gaeltacht team came away with three and a half matches from Gweedore last Saturday which was the best return that any Portnoo team had from Maghergallon in 20 years. Captain Michael Naughton had to call in some last minute replacements and the Ballygar native is now left with a dilemna for the remainder of the League as to his team selection.
Phillipa Mullin and Neily Gildea won the final of our Mixed Foursomes by getting the better of Cathy and Willie Quinn in a close final.

Vice Captain Hugh Francis Shovlin is the man in form at the moment with his second first prize in a fortnight. The Ballykilduff native got quickly over his error in the Captain’s Drive-In by scoring 41 points on Sunday to win on a break of tie from James Magee and Jim Harley both also on 41.
Barry Mc Closkey was the toast of Kilcar on Sunday when he got a Hole In One at the 16th. Barry along with his brother Paul both nephews of Martin and James Mc Hugh look like doing on the golf course as the famous uncles achieved on the GAA pitches a few years ago.
Friday’s seniors competition saw Eamonn Mc Gill take the honours on a break of tie from Frankie Quinn and Harold Reid all on 36 points. Frankie Quinn is also a man in form at the moment with a good score on Friday. The soon to be retired civil servant playing off 20 had an eagle 3 at the 13th and no doubt with more time to play golf he can achieve his life long ambition and see his handicap plummet towards single figures.
Last Wednesday’s competition was rained off.
